This neighbourhood was formerly known under the name of Aval-des-Rapides (downstream from the rapid) because of its geographical location downstream from the Gros-Sault rapid, which no longer exists because of the hydroelectric dam built on the river at the level of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul.
Many parks can be found in this area, like the parc des Prairies, which is the second largest on the island. You can walk along the paths or go on a bike tour to admire the surrounding nature. A cycling path takes you to Montréal by a railway bridge.
